Short description

Elected member of the Architecture Board of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC)

The Architecture Board is a group of 12 elected representatives of all OGC members and 2 representatives of the OGC. The main objective of this board is to support the coordination of consensus for the specification process within the OGC and with external organizations.

Chair of the Security WG  of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC)

It is the objective of the Security WG to coordinate the process how to establish security and access control by leveraging existing IT standards and perhaps specific extension to those standards to meet geo-specific requirements.

Member of the Policy 1.0 Standards Working Group of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC)

It is the objective to write a Standard that defines the Standardization Process of the Open Geospatial Consortium.

Member of the  Geospatial Rights Management (GeoRM)* of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC)

*: former GeoDRM WG

It is the objective of the GeoRM WG to specify a framework for establishing Rights Management to the geospatial domain. One main activity is to specify a geospatial extension to existing Rights Expression Languages, in order to support DRM for geographic information.

Editor of the GeoXACML Standard

Geospatial eXtensible Access Control Markup Language

The (GeoXACML) Standard (OGC documents 07-026r2, 07-098r1 and 07-099r1) defines a geo-specific extension to the eXtensible Access Control Markup Language (XACML) standard from OASIS.

This OGC Standard can be obtained from

Participant in the OWS-4 Initiative of the Open Geospatial Consortiums (OGC)

The objective of the GoDRM thread of OWS-4 was to develop concepts and implementations to establish licensed use of geographic information, using a WFS-T to obtain and maintain geographic features.

Project for disclaimer-enablement fort he German Spatial Data Infrastructure (GDI.DE), tasked by the Bavarian Mapping Agency, the Bayerisches Landesamt fr Vermessung und Geoinformation (LVG).

The application DeutschlandViewerof the LVG supports the viewing of geographic information for Germany. The use is for free only if the content is not used commercially. In order to force the user to accept the terms of use, the OGC WMS interface was extended in a standard compliant way using SAML artifacts. You can see the demo here.

Project for the Runder Tisch GIS e.V. (RT-GIS) for establishing GeoXACML based access control for a Web Map Service, using the RT-GIS OGC test platform.

An unprotected WMS of the RT-GIS OGC test platform is to be protected. The implementation shows geographic access rights for two users. You can see the demo here.

Access Control for Geo Web Services based Spatial Data Infrastructures, using GeoXACML (OGC Discussion Paper 05-036)

In order to protect access to services that provide geographic information, it is important to be able to declare access rights based on the geometric characteristics of the geographic information. GeoXACML supports this.
